Pierre Compte acquires a plant in Villemur-sur-Tarn for his company Société Générale d'Equipements (SGE), active in electrical equipment for automotive and aeronautics.
SGE activity grows with the automotive industry's expansion and Villemur starts to make harnesses for passenger cars, in particular for SIMCA.
Precision Mecanique Labinal (PML) buys SGE.
Labinal had been founded in 1921 and had become a specialist in electrical distribution and fluid filtration for aircrafts and automotive.
Labinal had bought Precision Mecanique just in 1957.
The Villemur's plant staff reaches 1,400 employees.
A new plant is built in Labastide-Saint-Pierre, 15 kms only from Villemur-sur-Tarn.
Part of Villemur's staff is transferred there to produce automotive harnesses.
Automotive Wiring Harness activity grows and a new plant is built in Cahors, at 90 kms from Villemur.
At that time, SGE has around 2,000 employees out of which 1,000 are in Villemur.
Villemur starts to assemble electronic boards for IBM.
This new activity is added to the already existing automotive and aviation wiring harness activities.
SGE changes its name to become CABLAUTO-SGE and PML, the mother company, buys its main competitor RKG that later will become the trade mark for the distribution and after sales market.
Labinal acquires Connecteurs Cinch from TRW. Connecteurs Cinch becomes the brand name of the connector divisions. Many Cinch connections are still in production today, some under the Molex brand, others under the VMI brand.
Labinal changes its industrial organization: Villemur specializes in wiring harnesses for aircrafts and in automotive connectors.
Close to 1,300 people are working in Villemur including more than 300 for CONNECTEURS CINCH.
Automotive Wiring Harnesses are all transferred to other plants, under the newly created SYLEA brand.
Connecteurs CINCH has been continuously patenting new inventions. This year, Connectique Modulaire pour Calculateurs (CMC) is launched. It will become the reference for sealed automotive ECU connections.
Later, CINCH will also develop and produce ECU headers, offering to its customer the complete connection.
SNECMA acquires LABINAL to complete its business portfolio in aeronautics.
Automotive businesses of LABINAL are therefore put for sale and VALEO acquires most of them, including the wiring harness division SYLEA.
Connecteurs CINCH remains within LABINAL for that time, with 360 people working in the plant of Villemur-sur-Tarn.
In 2001 SNECMA has divided the plant of Villemur-sur-Tarn into two different legal entities: LABINAL for aviation wiring harnesses and CINCH SA for automotive connectors.
Eventually, CINCH SA is sold to MOLEX in 2004. With this acquisition MOLEX gets a significant market share at PSA and RENAULT while acquiring the intelectual property of the CMC.
Soon after the acquisition of CINCH, Molex has dramatically reduced the global footprint of the company, closing down the plants in Portugal, India and China as well as the RKG after market activity.
In 2008, Molex decides to shut down almost all its industrial activities in Europe including the plant of Villemur-sur-Tarn.
Eventually, MOLEX has sold the plant of Villemur to an american equity fund. A new company has been created (VM Industries) that incorporates all the machines, equipments, toolshop, testing laboratory of the former CINCH-MOLEX plant. Some original CINCH tools are also included in the deal.
By the end of the year, VM Industries resumes the production of original CINCH parts and celebrates its first delivery.
Two years after its creation, VMI has consolidated its position in the market. All the former CINCH's customers have decided to work again with the plant of Villemur. The company has more than 50 employees working according to the latest automotive standards. This has been already recognized through numerous customer audits as demanding as the VDA 6 as well as through the ISO TS 16949 and ISO 9001 certifications for design and manufacturing of electrical connector.
Beside its fast organic growth, VMI and its holding entity H-VMI have always been looking for a good opportunity to consolidate its position through external growth.
This is achieved in 2012 with the acquisition of JOKON (JOHANN & KONEN GmbH & Co. KG). JOKON is a german company specialized in vehicle lighting (trucks, trailers, caravans and campers, special vehicles, busses, trains, etc. ). It is an opened door on the German market and the lighting technology.
